Mars Single Malt Tsunuki is made at the Tsunuki Distillery, nestled in the lush mountains of the southwestern Satsuma Peninsula where the climate leans towards hot and humid, as compared to Mars’s other distillery, the Komagatake Distillery, which is found high in the Japanese Alps.

The whisky of Tsunuki is full of rich fruity notes, with a lightly peated note that adds to the depth and complexity of this Japanese single malt. The 2023 release, which is primarily matured in ex-bourbon casks, is particularly fruity in multiple dimensions, displaying everything from citrus oil to stewed fruit, with a smokiness that will appeal to fans of peated Highland Scotch Whiskies.

Tasting notes

NOSE: Ripe tropical fruits like mango and pineapple, with layers of honey, vanilla, and a subtle hint of oak spice and citrus zest.

PALATE: Rich and smooth, with notes of malted barley, caramel, and orchard fruits such as apples and pears. Delicate hints of baking spices, toasted nuts, and a whisper of peat emerge as it develops on the palate.

FINISH: Long and warming, with lingering notes of sweet malt, dried fruit, gentle oak, and a faint smoky undertone.
