Following the landmark release of Kilchoman’s 16 Year Old in 2023, this is another outstanding age-stated single malt from Islay’s farm distillery. This limited release has been matured for 13 years in a combination of bourbon barrels, octaves and calvados casks.

The ex-bourbon casks make up the large part of the vatting, lending that unmistakable Kilchoman character, while the addition of calvados casks, which may surprise a few people, infuses vibrant green apple and fresh fruit notes into the mix.

Tasting notes

Nose: Bright and expressive, the nose opens with crisp green apple, lemon zest, and poached pear, wrapped in gentle waves of sea breeze and peat smoke. Subtle undertones of vanilla custard, honeycomb, and floral heather add depth and elegance.

Palate: Rich and oily on the palate, delivering layers of orchard fruit, golden syrup, and toasted oak. Sweet malt and ripe apricot interplay beautifully with the influence of Calvados, bringing a vibrant fruitiness. The peat smoke is persistent yet refined, carrying hints of charred citrus and salted caramel.

Finish: Long and warming, with lingering notes of baked apple, white pepper, and a savoury, earthy peat. A gentle maritime salinity and soft spice round out a complex, evolving finish.
