Duncan Taylor Octave Black Glen Moray 1988, 34 Year Old 45%

45% | 70cl | Duncan Taylor | Glen Moray | Speyside | Independent Bottling | NCF | Limited Edition | High/Cask Strength

A gorgeous single cask release from Glen Moray, which is known for its splendid Speyside character of being light and fruity. This very rare 34 year old Speyside single malt was distilled in 1988 and bottled by Duncan Taylor for their The Octave range in 2022. These small casks (around 60 litres) have a big impact on flavour.

This bottling is drawn from cask number 7037449 at a natural strength of 45% abv, and is one of only 87 bottles.

Nose: Creamy vanilla, victoria sponge cake with lots of strawberry jam along with red apples glazed with brown sugar. Fresh mint and lime peel along with white chocolate make for a very complex nosing experience.

Palate: Notes of citrus and apple pie. Caramel and toffee provide a depth of sweetness and character. Lots of sherry and marzipan along with a dusting of icing sugar and cinnamon sticks. Rounded, rich mouthfeel with a good oily texture.

Finish: Vanilla and strawberry jam return on the finish as does the white chocolate. Creamy yet rich this expression dives deep into the sherry sweetness giving dried oak, fresh pine and lots of winter fruits.

The Octave Premium Range from Duncan Taylor showcases years of maturation expertise transforming some of Scotland’s oldest and rarest whiskies into gently expanded and more sophisticated forms. Octave casks are approximately 1/8th the size of a butt, allowing for a greater surface to liquid contact that allows the cask to have a larger influence on the whisky in a shorter amount of time.
