Bunnahabhain, meaning ‘mouth of the river’, is one of the oldest single malt distilleries. Established in 1881 by the blender, William Robertson in partnership with brothers William and James Greenlees, the distillery and the surrounding town of Bunnahabhain, were built together, providing necessary roads and homes for the distillery workers and their families.
Production officially began in 1883, and today, nearly 150 years later, Bunnahabhain still preserves the time-honoured methods of whisky production in a process that has hardly changed since William Robertson and the Greenlees brothers first set eyes on this beautiful, rugged and remote north-eastern corner of Islay.
