Built in 1975 as a modern distillery that was meant to be operated by one person, Allt-A-Bhainne was first made to produce a light, estery malt for blending, and occasionally producing a heavily-peated expression. Allt-a-Bhainne is only very occasionally seen as a single malt bottling. This bottling greatly benefitting from the octave sherry cask. Bottled at cask strength.

Tasting notes

NOSE: Well‐rounded with punchy sherry, cherry liqueur, poached pear in red wine, hint of oak mixed with liquorice and leather. 

PALATE: More poached pear, maple syrup, shortbread with Nutella, hints of citrus, chocolate covered marzipan, very punchy and pleasant.

FINISH: Off dry, a touch of bitterness that quickly fades, some stewed apples in the aftertaste, the touch of green pepper and anis.

For upwards of 40 years the team at Duncan Taylor has experimented by maturing whiskies in smaller casks with great success.

Their research stemmed from the simple premise that there is more wood interaction with whisky over a shorter period of time in a small cask than in a large cask, therefore allowing a more rapid melding of wood, air and alcohol.

After a second maturation the octave casks have refined the whisky, enhancing its hue, taste, form and character. The flavour profile is gently expanded, a little more sophisticated with the commanding presence of a mature, well-balanced Scotch Whisky.

They have become ‘Octave Invigorated™.
